Untangle the traffic
Through-traffic cutting past the school. A car park where a square should be. Rebuild the street network, tame junctions, add trams and bike lanes, and watch the jams ease.
A city-building game · in development
Start with a neighborhood built for cars: wide roads, parked cars everywhere, noise and smog. Slowly turn it into a place people love to walk, one street at a time.

Or see how it playsIn the game: the canal, after a few streets of work.
Every car, every household and every tree is really there. Narrow a road and the noise falls. Plant a row of limes and the sidewalk cools. Open a square and, before long, it fills with people.

Two ways to play
Through-traffic cutting past the school. A car park where a square should be. Rebuild the street network, tame junctions, add trams and bike lanes, and watch the jams ease.
Design every street down to the curb: wider sidewalks, trees, planted corners, raised crossings and café tables. Shape lots and fill them with stucco houses, shop fronts and parks.
Beauty isn't decoration here. Trees cut noise and heat, comfortable routes draw people on foot, and a good plaza fills up on its own.
The retrofit
The space between the buildings stays the same. What you do with it is up to you.
Sidewalks, trees and bike lanes, as a share of the street
The town
Streets are curves, blocks and lots are any shape, and buildings fit the lot they're on: wedges, bends and odd corners included.
Built at true scale, one to one. A house with twelve flats holds twelve households, and every car, van and person on the street is one of them.
Pastel stucco, brick and clay tile. Every lot picks its own house, its colors and its shop: a bakery, a bike shop, a little wine bar.
Canals with reeds and lily pads, ducks that dabble, birdsong where the trees are and quiet where the traffic isn't.
It's early: the streets, lots, buildings and canals are in, and the people who walk them are learning their way around. The name is a working title, too.
